Could you have a new look.

We should also make the buttons' aria-label show on hover, but I guess that’s another issue…

I agree it is strange, especially since this info is only available when using tab. I will do it as youtube does it instead.

It works but seems strange that it has to be a separate tabbable element and not a context you receive when tabbing into the video controls.

As the warning on tabindex states:

However, authors should only make elements focusable if they act as interactive controls or widgets. In addition, authors should ensure that these focusable elements have an appropriate ARIA role attribute.
